Canadian family law concentrates on individuals" rights when their relationships have faltered. (chapter 1, page 2) it ensures that the families" actions are correct and puts forth legal consequences. In law, the words marriage and family do not have the same meaning. (chapter 1, page 2) in fact, many families start with a marriage but that is not always the case, especially in present times. There are many various types of families and the traditional nuclear family is now a minority group. Further, it is interesting to note that currently, new reproductive technologies are so ground-breaking that the law has been experiencing some issues in defining these relationships and legally regulating them. All these new situations arising give reason for the government to need to create laws to respond to situations, such as the parental rights that people would have in situations of surrogacy.
