Psychology played an important role in the investigative process long before hollywood became interested in the topic, and it continues to do so today. Psychologists have identified a number of key investigative tasks where psychology is particularly relevant. One of those tasks relates to the collection and evaluation of investigative information information that is often obtained from suspects through police interrogations. Another task relates to investigative decision making, especially decisions that require an in-depth understanding of criminal behaviour. A process whereby the police interview a suspect for the purpose of gathering evidence and obtaining a confession.
