Top-down : expect--> perceive prior knowledge comes from long term memory. Rehearsing, planning, visualizing, understanding, decision making and problem solving. Informaion retrieved from long term memory when we perceive something familiar. Selecion of channels to atend/ ignore is driven by 4 factors o. Change blindness: not noicing signiicant event if nothing is alerted abruptly to any sense. We don"t atend channels that are very eforful. Head movements, blind spot checks, scanning long distances, listening closely. We look at places where we expect to ind informaion. We atend channels that are most valuable to. Cocktail party efect: perceiving informaion which selecive atenion was not focusing on o. Someone calling your name who you weren"t listening to.
