Definition: anxiety is not arousal, arousal = level of physiological and psychological activation. It ranges on a continuum: how alert you are, in your body or mind, arousal can be the result of both positive and negative experiences, for some tasks, there is no ideal level of arousal. Experiencing anxiety as a result of perceiving that others" may evaluate one"s physique in social settings. In exercise context: ex: going to the gym because you are constantly worried about how others are evaluating your body, anxiety can high enough that it is so overwhelming that the person doesn"t go to the gym anymore. They will stop engaging in healthy behaviours and working out. Stress vs. anxiety: stress is a process, assess situation and coping, anxiety is negative emotions to stress. Influenced by the demands placed on the athlete by the environment and the evaluation of the available resources.
