Which is why some behaviouralists wanted to look into the possibility of there not being a physical damage. Misdiagnosis and subsequent mistreatment is more costly on a long term basis for the boy. Conversion disorder diagnosed in the presence of voluntary motor and sensory dysfunction that are not fully explained by physical disease. The symptoms should not appear intentionally. they must cause distress/ functional impairment appear to be associated with psychological factors. not uncommon: non epileptic seizures, faints, falls, and abnormality of sensation. more common in girls and adolescence. 6-grade boy who experiences pain and immobility in his right arm. no physical cause. the problem was treated successfully and quickly with a behavioural intervention. Operant/skinner, negative reinforcement. a treatment like this can be completely effective even when the problem isn"t entirely clear.
