Assimilation: minority group gives up identity by taking on characteristics of dominant culture (there were 3 waves of immigration to canada) Multiculturalism: recognition of cultural and racial diversity of canada and equality of canadians. Bilingual act in 1971- french and english. Generally accepted norm where no culture pulls/ dominates over another. Hybridity: process where racial and ethnic groups combine to create new or emergent cultural forms of life. Possible for culture hybridity that entertains difference without assumed or imposed hierarchy. Came when they found large groups of herbivores.
