Estimation is used in a situation where we want to know about a large set of data that"s impractical to work with. Hypothesis testing is used to test claims, i. e. mcdonald vs burger king; if only a slight preference to one is shown, the hypothesis can"t be rejected. X, y, or z: demographic questions: relate to the respondents" characteristics, backgrounds ,etc. and allow you to break down responses and look deeper into survey results. Population: set of all objects/individuals of interest or measurements obtained from them.
