Individualistic societies stress independence (loose ties), individual initiative, and privacy. Collective cultures favour interdependence (tight ties) and loyalty to family or clan: you"re o(cid:374) (cid:455)our o(cid:449)(cid:374) (cid:448)s. group takes (cid:272)are of (cid:455)ou. Individuals live alone vs. live with extended family: stress individual initiative, privacy vs. loyalty to the clan, sharing, stress individual achievement vs. uniformity. The united states and canada are among the most individualistic societies. Venezuela and columbia are among the most collective: long term/short term orientation, cultures with a long-term orientation stress persistence, perseverance, thrift (not being wasteful), and close attention to status differences.
