Information dependence: reliance on others for information about how to think, feel, and act: effect dependence: reliance on others due to their capacity to provide rewards and punishment. Motives for social conformity: compliance: conformity to a social norm prompted by the desire to acquire reward or avoid punishments. Adjusts behavior to the norm, he or she does not really subscribe to the beliefs,values, and attributions. eg. convicts. Identification: the individual identifies with these supporters and sees him or herself as similar to them. Imitation process, established members server as models for the behaviour of others. Internalization: individuals accept the beliefs, values and attitudes that underlie the norm. Because it is seen as right, not because it achieves rewards. Conformity is due to internal forces. eg. religious leaders. Employee orientation programs: the main content of most orientation programs consists of health and safety issues, terms and conditions of employment, and information about the organization, such as its history and traditions.
