Cache memory reduces gap between of performance between cpu and main. Def: safe place for hiding and storing things: cache stores a portion of main memory. Cache and main memory are divided into groups called words and blocks. 3 ways that a main memory block is stored in cache: full associative: one block can go into any cache block, direct mapped: each block in main memory has one place in cache. Definition: block_# mod cache_size: set associative: block is placed in restrictive set of places.
