Definitions/usage: alu (arithmetic & logic unit), control unit: Performs operations on data in the cpu. Controls operation of cpu & peripheral devices. Signals, control processing circuits that execute instructions. Determines type of instruction is being executed (mov, add, jmp) & generates time signal: register file, instruction register. Provides temporary storage of data within cpu. Output is made available to control unit. Contains memory address of instruction being executed. Pc is updated & points to next instruction: fetched from main memory. ***pc always points to instruction, not data the instruction.
