ERTH 2410 Chapter Notes - Chapter 6-7: Lithification, Mudstone, Diorite
Document Summary
Rock 1: it was determined that the first rock in the rock hunt was a clastic sedimentary rock. This rock is made up of two different beds of sedimentary rocks, the two layers in this rock were sandstone and conglomerate. The rock"s layer was sandstone on top, conglomerate through the middle then sandstone again underneath. Sandstone: we decided that this rock contained sandstone because it was a medium grained (1/16mm-2mm). It was also determined that the sandstone is rich in iron because of the red/brownish rust colour found on top of the sandstone. Conglomerate: after looking at the rock it was determined that the rock has traveled far, due to the fact that the clasts were very well rounded. The clasts were small, they ranged from pebble sized or smaller and were well sorted throughout the rock meaning that sedimentation took place a relatively slow pace.
