BUS 202 Chapter Notes - Chapter 10: De Jure, De Facto, Professional Code Of Quebec
Document Summary
Code: an established set of principles or rules of behaviour. Codes have various form; there may be codes of ethics, conducts, or practice, each species being framed to meet the specific needs of the organization that produced it. There common purpose is self-regulation through peer enforcement. Codes should be an aid to judgement, an affirmation of deep values, not a cheap substitute for them. Codes have long been used to establish standards in the profession. Codes came to be accepted not only as important in the ethical sense, but as necessary to be professional status. A profession without a code would be impossible these days. Some codes and values statements are ineffective and unrealistic, while others are vital parts of more extensive programs to promote corporate ethics. Codes can be used to escape ethical requirements but also to enforce them. Because corporations are not natural persons, formal rules are important in establishing their moral status.
