Nutriion therapy can improve glycemic control by: reducing glycated hemoglobin (a1c) by 1% to 2, can further improve clinical and metabolic outcomes (when used w/ other components of diabetes care) Culturally sensiive peer management improves a1c, nutriion knowledge, and diabetes self- management. Web-based care management improves glycemic control. People w/ diabetes should follow the recommendaions in the eaing well w/ canada"s food. Guide : consists of eaing from the 4 food groups (veggies/fruit, grain, milk, and meat/alternaives) Nutriion counselling should be individualized, regularly evaluated, reinforced, and incorporate self-management educaion. Weight loss of 5-10% of iniial body weight can improve insulin sensiivity, glycemic control, hypertension, and dyslipidemia in people with/at risk for type 2 diabetes.
