Document Summary

Phrenology revealed mental abilities and character traits. Discoveries: nerve cells conduct electrics & communicate through chemical messages across gaps. Specific brain systems serve specific functions and information is integrated to construct a wide range of experiences. Made up of ion exchanges moving in and out of axon myelin sheath. Electrical signal travels down axon covers axon of some neutrons and helps speed neural impulses junction between axon tip of sending neutron and dendrite or cell body of receiving neuron. Neurotransmitters: chemicals used to send a signal across synaptic gap. Reuptake: neurotransmitters are taken back up into sending neuroma to be recycled and used again. Acetylcholine affects muscle action, learning and memory. Endorphins natural opiatws released in response to pain and excersize. Drugs and other chemicals affect brain chemistry at synapses. Agonist molecules fills receptor site and activates it, acting like neurotransmitter.
