85 views2 pages

Document Summary

Childhood and adolescence finally no longer being taken for granted. Growth of science of psychology and difficulties and maladjustments of youth two forces that spurred this. Anthropologists grew to realize tremendous role played in individual"s life by social environment in which each is born ad reared. Aspects of behaviour we accustomed to consider invariable complements of humanity were found to be merely result of civilization. Neither race nor common humanity can be held responsible for many of the forms which even such basic human emotions as love and fear and anger take under different social conditions. The anthropologist arguing that behaviour of adult human stems from civilization reaches many same conclusions as behaviourist reaches in work upon human babies who have yet no civilization to shape malleable humanity. The only method available is that of the anthropologist: to go to a diff. civilization and make a study of human beings under diff. cultural conditions in some other part of world.
