White privilege say they"ll work to improve women"s status but won"t support idea of lessening men"s status. Men say women are disadvantaged but don"t say they"re over-privileged themselves. Whites have a privileged that minority groups do not have. Whites taught to not recognize white privilege as males taught to not recognize male privilege. White privilege is like an invisible weightless backpack of special provisions, maps, passports, codebooks, visas, clothes, tools and blank checks page 1. Many don"t realize they are being oppressive. Need a more finely differentiated taxonomy of privilege. As whites made to feel comfortable, confident & oblivious, others made confident, skin colour an asset uncomfortable & alienated. Privilege misleading usually favoured state but in this case it"s described to overpower certain groups (dominance) Difference between earned strength & unearned power. Power from unearned privilege can look like strength but really is permission to escape or dominate.
