Some say meant to hav ppl remember their materialistic hist and thus renew their responsibility to ethics. Four plants are allegories that still incorporate nature while creating distance from it. The original connotation of the sukkah the basis of its significance for our day. Tho some of rites r outdated, their meanings r not. Something abt the israelite experience of living in the wilderness that must b kept alive. Wilderness per seen as golden age for loyalty to god--idealized to critique contemporary generations. Seen as time w no econ inequality/class, wout materialism. Jews r not ashamed of nomadic origins bc of relationship to god--this did not appropriate conquered cultures. Using sukkah to protest inequalities of modern society.
