Involuntary trembling of a limb or body part. May involve large groups of muscle fibers or small bundles of muscle fibers. Becomes more apparent when an individual attempts a voluntary movement. More apparent when client is at rest and diminishes w/ activity. Inquire if client has any history of the ff : Limitations to movement or inability to perform adl. Compare muscles on one side of the body to the same muscle on other side. Palpate muscles at rest to determine muscle tonicity (the normal condition of tension, or tone of a muscle at rest) Palpate muscles while the client is active and passive for flaccidity , spasticity and smoothness of movement: no tremors, normally firm, smooth coordinated movements. Client turns the head to one side against the resistance of your hand. Client shrugs the shoulders against the resistance of your hands. Client holds arm up and resists while you try to push it down.
