Research chapter 7: a research literature review is a written summary of the state of evidence on a research problem. An important type of review for ebp is a systematic review, typically a meta- analysis or meta-synthesis: purpose of research literature reviews: literature reviews can inspire new research ideas, and help to lay the foundation for studies. A literature review is a crucial early task for most quantitative researchers. Author searches are also available: abstracting and recording information: retrieved references must be screened for relevance, and then pertinent information must be abstracted and encoded for subsequent analysis. Formal review protocols facilitate the encoding process: evaluating studies for a review: studies must also be critiqued to assess the strength of evidence in existing research. Has the research been developed with a systematic program of research: preparing a written literature review: in preparing a written review, it is important to organize materials in a logical, coherent fashion.
