In order for virtue to be taught, he has to know what it is. Therefore he would need to know what virtue is. Counterpart of opinion in philosophy is knowledge * Someone has examined it and knows the true state of affairs of the matter. No point in searching, you cannot begin to search without the idea of what your objective is. If you find it, you"ll have no idea you did.
