Document Summary

Reading note: martha nussbaum whether from reason or prejudice : taking money for bodily services. Most human beings sell their bodies in one form or another. Some options are greatly stigmatized, which may very well be founded upon class prejudice, racial and gender stereotypes. (very well illegitimate and unreasonable) (410) Adam smith argues that the sale of certain talents has historically been thought of as a sort of publik prostitution (only moral if not for the sake of fiscal gain) (410) In order to lessen the stigma toward such positions there is great inflation in wages in such areas of work. It is no longer our consensus that the purity of one"s profession is compromised by the earning of wages. Indeed, we believe it entirely just that one should receive adequate or even high compensation for their artful talents, as the presence of a contract can even serve to enhance the quality of one"s work as a professional.
