Eu vs us: high degree of population density (4xs us) makes environmental issues prevalent in europe. 1970s nuclear power"s environmental impact: disposal of radioactive material, possibility of limits on economic growth and resulting energy consumption, possibility of future generation"s genetic damage. 1980s: publicly reported that europe"s forests would be dead by end of century because of air pollution. Fight for clean air: basic changes in people"s lives necessary to eradicate sources of air pollution, curtail private transportation, increased receptiveness of european leaders to environmental issues, addition of environmental costs of production to products sold.
