How do attitudes guide behaviour: attitudes the evaluation of objects, events or ideas, feelings, opinions, beliefs, shaped by social context and play important role in evaluating/interacting with others, attitudes about everything. Measures how quickly we associate objects/concepts with positive/ negative words. Example: faster response to female=bad than female=good shows attitude towards females. Iat = better predictor of behaviour than explicit self-reports: also revealed in people"s behaviours. However people do not want to reveal their true feelings sometimes. One group = read list of obscene words + sexually explicit passages in front of male experimenter. Other group = list of milder words (i. e. prostitute) Groups both listened to boring/technical presentation of mating rituals in lower animals.
