Document Summary
Watson: environment (nurture) has dramatic effects on development. Behavior genetics: study environment/nature+biology/nature effects on behavior. Same data provides evidence of the importance of environmental factors. Nurture: theory: physical/cognitive development determined by environment. Ex. identical twins w/same genetic makeup & different personality. Longitudinal: same participants are tested/observed over a period of time |see behavioral trends that develop over time. Cross-sectional: participants, often different ages, are tested/observed in a limited time span or once | answer specific question at a point in time. Sequential studies: combine cross-sectional/longitudinal in one study (ex. visual ability of 20-/25-/30-/35- y/o people change in 5-year period) Cohort: groups of participants born in the same year. Ejaculation: 360 million sperm fallopian tubes meet the ovum. 25 to 30% chance of pregnancy (acidic vaginal secretions, white blood cells) Zygote: 1 cell structure, fallopian tubes uterus mitosis during full pregnancy. Embryo: 2-9 weeks, major organ systems formed. Zygotes rejected (spontaneous abortion), defective in some ways.
