Vul"fson studied salivary responses to various substances placed in the mouth eg. dry food, wet food, sour water. After the dogs had experienced these things placed in the mouth, the mere sight of the substances was enough to make the dogs salivate. Snarskii found that giving the dogs sour water that was artificially colored black would cause them to salivate at the sight of black water or any bottle with black liquid. Orosensory stimuli; stimuli which produce distinctive texture and taste sensations in the mouth. The dogs learned to associate the visual features of the stimuli eg. sand, which their orosensory features.
