The term intellectual disability replaced the previous term mental retardation in the dsm-5. Misunderstanding and mistreatment of children with intellectual disabilities lasted until the end of the 18th century, fueled by the discovery of feral children like victor (wild boy of averyon) Dr. samuel g. howe educating the (cid:498)feeble-minded(cid:499) was a public responsibility and opened the first humanitarian institution in north. People with id were put in solidary confinement and restraints caused a public outrage. Eugenics: sir francis galton; (cid:498)the science which deals with all influences that improve the inborn qualities of race(cid:499: caused a shift away from the needs of the individual with id to protecting the society from them. People with id were often blamed for the social ills at the time.
