Qualitative interviews allow the researcher to pursue issues and topics in greater depth. This type of research is often used in conjunction with other methods of research. Depth interviews involves asking open ended questions, listening and recording the answers and the following up with additional relevant questions. These interviews are often unstructured compared to questionnaires. The interviews begin with a limited number of topics and asks questions and follow ups guided by a sense of where useful insights will be found. A semi-structured interview is organized around general questions and themes declared in advance. What is key is establishing a rapport. The interviewer needs to make the other person seem interested by being interested. There are seven stages to completing an interview according to steinar kvale. Thematizing: clarifying the purpose of the interviews and the concepts to be explored. Designing: laying out the process through which you"ll accomplish your purpose including a consideration of the ethical dimension.
