Travesti prostitution is not only a source of income but also a source of pleasurable expe- riences. Prostitution is not degrading, but regarded as work, like any other job and they view themselves as professionals. Prostitution and activities associated with it (robbing) are the main source of income for many travestis. The difference between most prostitution and travestis, is that travestis will continually tell one another detailed descriptions of sexual encounters they enjoyed while working on the street. If the man is attractive, known to have a large part or very good in bed, the travesti will pay him to have sex with them. In the 1970s & 80s, travestis began to charge the men who approached them for sex. Women are more privileged; already feminine and they do not have to try when they go out on the streets. When a travesti has done something wrong, they are reminded that they are a man ex. cutting their hair.
