Archeological chronology adds to the picture: con ict arose when researchers found naval guns with spokes (rather than the theorized xed wheels of the era) Weight of con icting evidence is important: the dates of the mary rose are important because they provide historical signi cance. Advancements in dating: orbital tuning: inter calibration of the predictable astronomical record with records obtained from radiocarbon dating; marine isotopic oxygen levels and paleomagnetism.
