Sampling strategies: where only a representative part of an area is actually searched; often to save time and money, random sampling: plots are chosen based on a table of randomly selected numbers. Nature of random numbers and their clustering is inherently biased: strati ed random sampling: regions are subdivided into zones which are then randomly sampled in proportion to their overall size (ex. Site surface survey: the study of the distribution of surviving features at a site and the recording and collecting of artifacts from the surface, quantitative bias in favour of the most recent periods on the surface.
