ARTHIST 2AA3 Chapter Notes - Chapter 9: Art Therapy, Diencephalon, Motor Cognition
Document Summary
Developmental at is usually applied to children but it can also be used with individuals of any age who are physically/emotionally handicapped, with cognitive impairment/developmental delays. Valuable for trauma patients/emotional stress because it evokes early sensory experiences and taps into symbolic expression that is found throughout the developmental continuum. A neurosequential framework (perry 2002) is relevant to the application of at for young children. Uses the normal developmental stages of artistic expression, as well as normal play, motor skills, and social interactions, as a basis for evaluation and subsequent interventions. All children follow expected, progressive changes in their art expression, changes that are characteristic of each group. Using the stages you can judge the age of a child and spot deviations in content and form. Children also have a personal visual logic, that influences how they place objects on the page, use colour and line, or develop symbols for people and objects in their environments.
