The assistant, as a receiver must perceive the message and accurately decode it to achieve accurate understanding. To provide feedback the assistant might send the manager a copy of the order for the flange blots: effective communication occurs when the right people receive the right information in a timely manner. Communication by strict chain of command: chain of command lines of authority and formal reporting relationships, downward communication this flows from the top of the organization towards the bottom ex. Vp instructing a plant manager, and so on: upward communication this flows from the bottom of the organization toward the top ex. A chemical engineer might conceive a new plastic formula with unique properties and then pass it on the research and development manager: horizontal communication occurs between departments or functional units, usually as a means of coordinating effort. Such communication would flow up to and then down from a common manager.
