EARTHSC 1G03 Chapter 19-21: Lecture 19-21 – Streams
Document Summary
Most of water that comes up into the atmosphere from the ocean falls back in the ocean. We get more from the ocean than what lands on the ocean. The rest of the precipitation is on land in the form of snow, ice, or water. When it lands on land, some it gets stuck on land, it lakes, ponds, or running water like streams. Some of it ends up like snow and ice that doesn"t melt in the summer like green land. Some of sinks down into floor spaces and that forms ground water. We care because we can"t drink salt water or animals. If you"re adapted to hang out on land, you need fresh water. The water that evaporates from the ocean and lands on earth is the water that turns fresh that we can drink. Most of it is tied up in glaciers. A big part of it is underground as ground water.
