When making a map a cartographer makes two decisions: how much of the earth"s surface to depict on the map (map scale, how to transfer a spherical earth to a lat map (projecion) A features size on a map to the actual size on earth. Map scale is presented in three ways: a raion or fracion (ex. 1cm:1000cm: a writen scale (1 cenimeter on a map equals 10 km, a graphic scale (the bar line) Geographic informaion science (giscience) the development and analysis of data about earth acquired through satellite and other electronic informaion technologies it helps create more accurate maps and measure changes over ime in the characterisics of places. Transmits images and data from a remote controlled satellite to a receiving staion.
