Alaska Panhandle: A strip of the Pacific coast north of 54 degrees 40’ N latitude that was awarded to the
United States in 1903, following what is known as the Alaska boundary dispute.
British Columbia-Alberta- Saskatchewan Trade, Investment, and Labour Mobility Agreement (TILMA):
An agreement giving businesses and workers in all three provinces seamless access to a larger range of
opportunities across all sectors: including energy, transportation, labour mobility, business registration,
and government procurement. In 2009, Sask. signed this agreement
Cascadia: The name proposed for an independent sovereign state advocated by a grassroots movement
in the Pacific Northwest, which would include British Columbia, Washington and Oregon.
Provincial Agricultural Land Commission: An independent BC agency responsible for administering the

Hydraulic Fracturing: A method used to fracture rock formations in order to allow oil or natural gas to
flow from impervious geological strata
Producer Services: Services that have enabled firms and regions to maintain their specialized roles in
marketing, advertising, administration, finance and insurance industries. These are several parts of the
growing service sector of the economy.
Asia-Pacific Gateway and Corridor: A system of transportation infrastructure, including BC’s lower
mainland and mainland and prince rupert ports, road, and rail connections, that reaches across Western
Canada and into the economic heartlands of North America, including major airports and border
crossing.
Container: A sealed steel “box” of standardized dimensions for transporting cargo
Liquefied natural gas: A liquid form of natural gas chilled to -162 degrees. The cooling process, called
liquefaction, reduces the volume to one six-hundreth of its original volume. As a liquid, it can be loaded
onto special tankers and transported by sea around the world, making a once regional commodity a
global one. At regasification terminals, the LNG is warmed until it returns to a gaseous state.
