Dramatic changes in life expectancy can be explained by a number of factors. Three stages that describe changes in the patterns of diease: Characterized by socio-economic conditions in which communities are traditional, economically underdeveloped with a low per capita income, and generally agrarian. High mortality rate is attributed to famine and infectious diseases. Characterized by a decrease in epidemics and famine and a consequent decline in the mortality rate.
