Through thie act, gov ensures provinces & territories meet certain requirements e. g. free & universal access to publicly insured health care. Gov favours public health care insurance over private insurance. Private insurance companies could refuse to insure high-risk clients or force them to pay higher premium to offset risk. Maintain that private insurance market does not have regard for economic equity. Individuals w/ health problems & a low income would have the same fee structure as high-income individuals. Gov yields more efficiencies than private insurers in terms of lower administrative costs & economies of scale. Private health care insurance exists but is limited e. g. additional coverage for services not insured by public plan. Gov is not also involved in all delivery of publicly insured health services. Role of gov in health care in canada. Federal gov cannot establish & maintain national health care insurance plan bc it cannot regulate delivery of health care to individuals.
