A fracture is a break in the rigid structure and continuity of a bone. Bones can be classifies in many ways: complete incomplete complete fracture: occurs when the bone is broken to form 2 or more separate pieces incomplete fracture: the bone is only partially broken. Greenstick: softer bones of children, the shaft of the bone is bent tearing the cortical bone on the side but not extending all the way through: open closed. Open/ compound: results when the skin is broken. The bone could be angled and break the skin. More damage to soft tissue, like blood vessels and nerves, higher risk of infection. Closed: the ski(cid:374) is(cid:374)"t (cid:271)roke(cid:374) (cid:449)here the fra(cid:272)ture o(cid:272)(cid:272)urred. Simple fracture: a single break in the bone, bone ends retain there alignment and position. Comminuted fracture: multiple fracture lines and bone fragments. Compression fracture: common in vertebrae, bone is crushed or collapse into small pieces.
