Clients are actively involved in organized music activities. Important to build up trusting environments and relationships to better resonate with the problems of clients. Joint analysis of three components: music, music therapist, the client. Includes the meaningful expressions of the client and how these expressions influence the meaningful expressions of the music therapist. The emphasis is placed on the relationship between therapist and client. Exploring what is meaningful to the client at that point in time of the session, both verbally and through musical performance. New ideas of playing and expressing oneself, understanding the problem. Client may want to play alone and need to be listened to carefully. Session ends when material that was brought up during the session is discussed in detail afterwards, in order to digest it. Find a focus or a topic for the musical improvisation. Can be created according to the type of problem. Topic in relation to treatment, and individual sessions.
