People have always lived in groups at least as large as the family. The usual term for such groups, large or small, is society. Members in the society live by common rules of conduct as well as regular behavior. Society exists when people share so many rules of conduct that they are able to understand and predict one another"s behavior. The difference between humans and animals are how human intelligence allows them to not only understand rules of conduct but also change them by conscious decision. Impossible to draw clear lines between societies in the modern world because rules of conduct have been diffused. Western cultures such as education, clothing, manners, economic activities etc. , are being practiced all around the world to an extent that the world has become one society. Society is a field of voluntary interactions. People make their decision about whom to marry, how to make a living, who their friends will be and where to shop.
