Document Summary

Two types of unconscious learning: classical conditioning allows us to associate two related events. Instrumental conditioning allows us to associate actions and consequences. Investigated the phenomenon of dog salivating prior to eating: studied contingent relationship the presentation of a stimulus leads to the presentation of another, eg. flash of lighting before thunder. Classical conditioning the learning of a contingency between a particular signal and a later event that are paired in time and/or space: eg. Lightning followed by thunder, allergic reaction after eating strawberry: can be critical for animals to avoid predators, contingencies are the basis for classical conditioning. Unconditional stimulus (us) is a stimulus or event that triggers a response in the absence of any learning. Examples: food placed in a dog"s mouth will cause the dog to start salivating without any learning necessary. Unconditional response (ur) the response that occurs after the unconditioned stimulus. Ur follows us always without the need of any training/learning.
