PSYCH 1X03 Chapter Notes -Reinforcement
Document Summary
Omission training is the process of removing a positive reinforcer if unwanted behavior occurs takes away privileges. It is commonly used as a method of discipline. By removing the positive reinforcers, a person will likely stop the unwanted response. An example of using omission training is if billy" is at a dance party where there is a rule not allowing smoking cigarettes inside, and billy still decides to smoke a cigarette. The host of the party would want to eliminate billy or anyone"s behavior of smoking inside while avoiding using punishment and it"s side effects. The host would then turn off the music in the dance party for five minutes every time someone smokes inside the house. The music for the dance party is a positive reinforcer, and by removing the music it would likely stop people from smoking inside. This is different from escape training in that the host of the party would take away the negative reinforcer.
