In psychological research: operational definitions are essential, they are always open to argument. A key step in critically evaluating any research. Choices made by psychologists are guided by the level of analysis that is applied to the problem. Examples learning, cognition, social, development, evolution, neuroscience . Each researcher operates in different paradigms, and get different answers. Scientific method formal way of asking question about human nature; allows for the most accurate and objective conclusions to be reached. Levels of analysis important to consider multiple levels of analysis in order to get the most accurate theories. Unbiased research helps to avoid letting our own opinions get in the way of one"s current research. Foundational for any scientific practice; must be used in order to establish trustworthy theories: parsimony: Choosing the simplest theory with the most explanatory power. Applied to competing explanations that are similar in terms of how they deliver facts.
