Document Summary
If a set of factors causes symptoms of an anxiety disorder, then removing those factors. Etiology -the cause, or set of causes, of a disorder should alleviate those symptoms. Dsm-only describes a pattern of symptoms, it does not offer an explanation for the disorder, or suggest treatment methods. The etiology of psychopathology is complex and not well understood. Etiological factors can be grouped into different models, according to how they cause disorder. Biological model points to brain malfunction as the causal agent. Usually points to genetics, atypical neurotransmitter activity, or abnormal brain structures. If two twins share a trait, they have concordance. The heritability of a specific disorder can be estimated by comparing the concordance rates of identical and fraternal twins, as they vary in the percentage of the genotypes they share. If identical twins are more likely to share a specific disorder than fraternal twins, we can conclude that genetics play a larger role in that disorders etiology.
