Rouge test - odorless dye is put on animals and babies to see if they can identify themselves in a mirror. If they can, it is evidence that they have a concept of self (see themselves as a separate entity) Observable characteristics when younger transition to psychological characteristics. Self-schemas - an organized body of knowledge about the self that influences what people notice, think and remember about themselves. More likely to remember experiences that fit into your self schema. If we are told a personality trait is synonymous with success we are more likely to remember experiences that align with this trait to incorporate it and being successful into your self schema. Self-concept clarity - the extent to which the knowledge of self is stable, and clearly and consistently defined. People with low self-concept clarity are predisposed to self-handicapping, depression and low self-esteem.
