Psychology is about the precise manipulation of independent variables for the furtherance of compelling theoretical accounts of well-specified phenomena. Personality psychology addresses how people feel, think and behave psychological triad; especially interesting when these three conflict this is common. Personality psych =/= clinical psych but they do overlap (when patterns of personality are extreme, unusual, and cause problems: both try to understand a person as a whole, not parts of a person. Personality: individual"s characteristic patterns of thought, emotion, and behavior. Basic approach: limit what you look at, search for more specific patterns, tie together different kinds of observations; systematic, self-imposed allows for limitations. Trait approach: focuses on ways people differ psychologically & how these differences might be conceptualized, measured, and followed over time. Biological approach: understand the mind in terms of the body address anatomy, physiology, genetics, evolution & their relevance for personality.
