Light energy is concentrated in small packets, photons, which travel through space in a wave-like mannero light propagates like a wave: light interacts with matter like a particle. Distance covered by a single cycle of electromagnetic radiation is known as the wavelength (lambda) Scale is in nanometers 10-9 m: mainly talking about visible spectrum 400 nm - 700 nm, longest = red, shortest (highest energy) = blue. Changing the wavelength changes the colour we perceive. ~ sphere shape (can be different with different people) Whole eye surrounded by a fibrous tissue sclera (opaque white: doesn"t pass light rays very well, turns into the cornea (continuous because it"s not transparent with the sclera) which can pass light. Refractive (bends light as it travels from air to the cornea) Layer inside the sclera = choroid: sheet of blood cells that supply, pigmented cells photo-transduction retina cells with blood. Retina: contains the photoreceptors: where light is focused.
