Document Summary

Plato"s symposium- introduction and descriptions of their love. It"s a party held by a famous athenian. They get together, get drunk, and decide to sit around and talk and share stories about a particular god; eros. After everyone has their turn, a really famous party crasher comes in and tells his story. Then everyone gets incoherently drunk and goes home. All the people were real people, but they were never in a room together. Agathon (main character) just won an oscar for best director/writer or his tragedy. The party he held was like his private party . Love-love capitals are the true form of it. These speakers were all lovers with one another. In ancient greece, this wasn"t allowed, but they seduced one another in the right way, which made it acceptable. Pederasty: the love of boys (young men, not children) Beloved"s don"t necessarily have to reciprocate those feelings. One of the most gorgeous young men in athens.
