Jon- short story -not about religion -similar to 1984 -Sanders describes things in the near future -it’s a dystopia of the almost present moment. (dystopia= take the present circumstances and put them in a fictitious form and put emphasis on the bad things). Example: in 5 years, people might be doing what his story is about, that’s how near the future it is. - inside the society there are 2 strata: the coordinators (people who run it), and john and caroline and his friends (in the party but they believe the lies). The coordinators don’t believe the lies, the manufacture them. -john is attracted to a coordinator (same with 1984) -john’s character is done through actively manipulating the memory of his mother (also the same as 1984). -eros: jon and Caroline.
